Chris Leslie MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to the IFS’s analysis of the Budget, said:

“The IFS has exposed the harsh impact of George Osborne’s work penalty in the tax credits system.

“Working people have been hit by a Budget which delivers the opposite of the Chancellor’s claims.

“Overall the changes to the minimum wage and tax credits will leave working people worse off and it is ‘arithmetically impossible’ for the Chancellor to claim otherwise. 

"People on low and middle incomes will pay the price for the Chancellor’s choices.”
